Adult Handstripping

Hand-stripping is a type of grooming method remove excess hair from your dog’s coat.

The most common method of dog grooming is clipping, this method involves the use of a pair of electric clippers which cut or shave the top layer of hair on your dog’s coat.

The difference between clipping and hand-stripping is it removes coat from the root  so a new coat is able to grow in. By removing the hairs entirely you will be creating room for the new coat to grow in.

The type of coat that requires hand stripping produces two types of hair, the undercoat is soft and dense while the top coat is longer and wiry in texture.

Dogs with wiry coats go through a specific growing cycle in which the hair becomes thicker and darker.

If do not remove the dead hair from the top coat it will have a negative impact on the overall appearance and condition of your dog's coat.

Some dog breeds, such as Border Terriers should be Handstripped at least twice a year to remove the dead furr.

We price on breed as each breed will have different requirements. Handstripping is priced as part of the Full Groom Service.

Grooming Benefits

Grooming is an essential part of a dog’s life, from puppyhood onwards, because there are so many wellbeing benefits. As well as introducing air to the coat and boosting healthy hair growth, regular grooming also promotes good blood circulation and helps to prevent a build-up of grease and dandruff. When too much grease builds up within a dog’s coat, it can block pores and cause sebaceous cysts, which can be very uncomfortable and painful for the dog.

Grooming is also the perfect opportunity for your dog to be be checked regularly to ensure they are fit and well. Nowadays, most dogs live indoors and will moult more quickly, and more often, than their wild counterparts, which can cause the loose hairs to become matted. If not brushed out regularly, a heavily matted coat can become tight and will feel very uncomfortable when your dog moves. It can also lead to skin problems.

Improved Coat

Grooming maintains a healthy coat and skin and ensures your dog doesn’t suffer any irritation.

Reduced Shedding

Properly brushed and bathed coats result in less shedding and less dirt being trapped in the undercoat.

Healthy posture

Regular nail trimming reinforces a healthy paw structure and posture, and reduces the risk of infection
